This was found in my side yard it was about 9" down.

I believe it is a buckle, but what kind of buckle is it? Timeframe? This piece still is in working order (rust has not seized this piece up and it came out of the ground looking exactly like this minus all the mud.

Thanks for looking hope someone knows a little more about this piece.

I wuld guess it is an overalls srtap buckle. Pretty fancy. Hard to say the age. Any history on the property?

In good shape, too. How do other relics look from the same ground?

As for history on the property not too much can be found I do know for as far back as I can go from plat maps that the place was settled in 1876 might be an earlier date but that is the farthest I could go back. The owners at that time were from NY thier family cinsisted of 5 people they also had 1 servant and 2 hired farm hands who also lived on the property with the family. There were 2 homes shown on the property considerable distance from each other but all on the same tract of 260 acres. Other items found in the area where this piece was found have been other buckles including a nice one from 1920's that is considered a rodeo button. Button have been found but most are not in that good of shape a lot of corrosion. Also in that area I have also found a nice looking IH from 1907 one from 1900 a wheatie dated 1912 and a civil war token dated 1863 the place was a dairy farm around the 60's I did happen upon what I believe to be the old foundation to the previous house not sure though. There is a lot of stacked sandstone and it all seems to be in the general area of where the current house now stands. All the coins coming out of this area have came out beautiful. I wondered about it being part of overalls because of the one section but I dismissed that idea as this piece seems to be rather thin (looks to be stamped brass) it may be though who knows. Also found in the same area is what looks to be a mini ball yet again I do not know as I really dont know too much about those either. If it is though that is in some great shape. here is a picture of that.

It's a suspender clip with the "clip" broken off...check the right side of the photo--that's not a hole for a button, but where the clip part was fashioned. You'll see that the metal is broken there--and that it looked more like the one that RELICDUDE posted before it was broken.

100% Certain. I've dug dozens and dozens of these.

I would say for that style, roughly 1870-1890 or so.
