That's a strange one. My guess is a small strap buckle where the strap would pass over both rollers.

I guess it would have been sewn into a piece of fabric due to the ears. Something like a drawstring closure?

Oh man I’d love to see an Id, I found basically the same thing, on a site no known buildings just a river bottom farm field in Kansas, the only two things that are datable from that site are a shield nickel with no date left, and a civil war cavalry button… what kind of site are you on?
My best guess was maybe a link in a watch or some kind of bracelet.

I dont know what the name for them is and i am not even sure if i am correct... but... i think this may be a "slack roller buckle" type dealio... like they had on the old antique swimsuits.
