Neat Shoe Buckle Frame, Birneys Cocaine Vial

Hi All
Couple hours spent on the mud,
First target from the iron field was the buckle frame, I got enough frames to start a colonial shoe store
but a complete example is still a yet
the full pin terminals likely date it pre 1750.
Also a fragment of another fancy buckle
got a large plain Cloak button, dognose pewter spoon handle,
believe this style was made til 1700 or so.
Nice Bell, ring, mechanical counting bank, broken open as always, I got a bunch of these,
lead keel from toy sailboat, popular sport in Victorian times,
Thanks for looking! HH Everyone! Herbie.

Dr Birneys Catarrhal Powder vial is a cool item, crudely blown, scratch free,
Cocaine cure, sure makes those symptoms disappear, for a minute anyway,

From a 1905 newspaper article:

"READ WHAT

WILLIAM THOMPSON, OF CHICAGO

says of

BIRNEY'S CATARRH CURE

"Three years ago Thompson was a strong man. Now he is without money, Health, home, or friends."
(Chicago "Tribune")

"I began taking Birney's Catarrh Cure (says Thompson) three years ago, and the longing for the drug has grown so potent that I suffer without it.
I followed directions at first, then I increased the quantity until I bought the stuff by the dozen bottles."

A famous drink and drug cure in Illinois had, as a patient, not long ago, a fourteen-year -old boy, who was a slave to the Birney brand of cocaine. He had rum his father $300 in debt, so heavy were his purchases of the poison."

Nice finds Herbie! I love your digs! Is that a salt shaker? How about the ring, Gold? Is it as old as your other finds?
Is that a harpoon point?

StormSurge, The shaker top is from talcum powder I think. it has a sliding piece that blocks the holes :icon_scratch:
ring is some copper alloy...
The bottom pic is the toy sailboat keel. I dug a harpoon point a while back though :laughing9:
thought it was an oldy til I saw the same one on my favorite fishin boat,
could be 20 years old or a hundred...
Appreciate your reply!! HH All!

That's a good lookin' buckle Herbie. And I know you're happy with the cutlery pieces as that's one of your favorites. Nice hunt!

Thanks Bill!
and you remembered my penchant for pewter,
there was a thread in Best finds on Pewter spoons,
I remember giving YOU advice on dating them :laughing9:
LOL, you've forgotten more about them than I know...
Best Wishes, Herbie.

Great looking shoe buckle frame Herbie! Neat bottle too. I have found several Catarrh remedies, Doctor Marshall's comes to mind as one. I think I have a Doctor Pierce's too. But I didn't know they had Cocaine in them?

Great finds herbie...I like the detail on your buckle.Tomorrow I head for Hampton Beach for the next 5 days.last year was my best there.I got one silver ring and a silver rosie.i hope to top that this year.Wish me luck.

Thanks All!
Steve, i only researched the 'DR BIRNEY'
many tales of woe from use of this product, I didn't research 'catarrh' symptoms either,
figured it was general malaise :dontknow:
the quote I used was straight from a 1905? newspaper.

Salty, good luck on Hampton beach, I've been there a couple times, tough hunting...
HH All! Herbie
