Buckle found in Baltimore

I found this buckle today in So. Baltimore at a location that was a battery during the War of 1812. This same area was used as a lookout point during the Civil War. It is brass, measuring approximately 1 and 1/8th inch by 3/4 inch, and seems to have been used to bind something lightweight.

Be Safe Brother, That is a ruff area your hunting in...I was in the water near Mercy Hospital a few months ago, stayed on 100% alert, and this is in the water..

And nice piece dug in Baltimore...:thumbsup:

Here are photos which confirm the ID as a pantswaist adjuster-strap buckle, also used on vest/waistcoat adjuster-strap, from the 1850s through 1940s. Important note: the earliest ones (1850s/60s) were date-marked, then dateless after the Patent expired (1870s onward).
