Commenting on your last piece, it looks like the bottom cap off of an old flint lock pistol.

Coiol finds! It could be scale mail.

A few months ago I did some research on Japanese scale armor and most of it had mulitple holes for linking it together. It is difficult to find good pics of real Western scale, but I found a couple of pics from guys who make modern copies for reenactment or fantasy. A number of them use single hole scales.

Looks to me like the plate that goes around the front of a cast iron wood burning stove where you can vent it and let air in
