Brother-in-Law cant' find his Cache

Last week my Brother-in-Law was in town visiting. I showed him our recent finds(mostly clad but a few relics, dozen wheats and a silver dime). He said he wasn't impressed. It irked me but I brushed it aside and continued to chat about metal detecting and what others find, etc. He then told me about how him and his buddy buried a Silver Dollar Cache on public land some 20-30 years ago. He says that they went to dig it up this summer and can't find it. They have been to the area 3 times looking for it and have been unsuccessful. They buried another cache in another city and were able to locate that one but this one eludes them. He told me how they marked it and how deep they buried it(I doubt a MD would be able to pick it up) and on what land....so guess what I'll be looking for this winter? ;) I did assure him that if found it that I wouldn't dig it up without him. I doubt that the value of the cache is more than $100. But it still would be fun to locate and dig up with him.

Now the way I see it, sounds like carma got him, wasn't impressed!, i'd bet some detectorist got it! HA!

LOL,, if there where many coins a md would pick it up, then again they could have missjudged the area, this has been done many times,, i remember my older brother telling me he had burried a toy car he stole from someone years ago,, he said its still there, we went to dig it up and nothing,, he said i know it was deffinately here,, i said right here he said yes here not over there here,, so i moved arround with md and guess what i found it about 8" down 7 yards from where he was diggin, lol,, people get dissalusioned to the land,, go check it all,,,.

How true it is!, I still like the carma story better----------the jerk!

A $100 silver dollar cache? I'm not impressed. If I were you, I wouldn't go look for it. He sounds like just the type of moron who will say you found it and took it if it never turns up. I have a few of these idiots in my family, and I don't have anything to do with them. If you do look for it, I hope you find it though!

Go ahead and look for it Bob, The next time you see him (if you locate it ) ask him if he's impressed now.. HH Art...

That's an interesting point, treasurekidd. Although, I don't believe that the uncle (I'm Mirage's son) would make that sort of accusation. Thanks for thinking about the situation. HH

I don't want you guys to think badly of my brother in law. I actually like him and he is a good guy and generally fun to spend time with. Trouble is, he like a lot of others have some misconceptions about metal detecting. One of the things he proceeded to tell me was how if I let him borrow my metal detector for a week he would find some real treasure. ::) Yeah, like crushed Mountain Dew cans, nails and zinc pennies! People just get this impression that all you need is a metal detector and some "good" spots and you will find the stuff. Very simple huh? Yes, sometimes it is almost that simple but that is the exception not the rule. And you have to put in your time, know your equipment, etc.

Well, anyway I will look for the cache this winter when I need an excuse to get out for a walk through the woods.
