Found in a park. Made from copper or more probably bronze as there was not much corrosion. It appears to be very worn and measures about 28mm (1.1 inches). Thanks for looking to identify......G

A Roman Bronze Coin...which appears to be of Caligula (37-41 AD)... If it's real, which it looks like it might be...a scarse one. proberbly from some ones collection, shame about the drilled hole.

Wow, that sounds fantastic. Just knowing I have a coin and it may be that old is awesome. It will be hard for me to find something older than that. Thanks Silver Searcher for your response. If I don't get any other suggestions I'll mark it solved.........G

The reverse looks a lot like a King George (copper) from the 1700's. Someone will chime in soon. Awesome find!

After looking at the coin again this morning, I am begining to think that it's not Caligula, but perhaps Claudius, sorry to flip-flop a bit on this, but there are a few 1st century Emperors that have a similar look to them, and with not much legend on the coin, some times can be quite difficult to ID.

I think that it is indeed Claudius 41-54 AD....this one. The remains of your legend above his head, match the one I have posted below.

Claudius Æ As. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP, bare head left / LIBERTAS AVGVSTA S-C, Libertas standing facing, with pileus and extending left hand.

Yeap, hard to find much older, although the odd BC Greek coin has been found US side. Still it is a real one, not a fake.

You are quite welcome, and yes I did spend a bit of time on the ID, I do it because I like to, and not for the Glory, and if I can help someone...then even better :icon_thumright:
