Being we have some folks who seem to be well versed in some of the Asian merchandise, I got this 15cm by 11cm metal pot clearly marked Made in Korea with a half stamped maker's mark which I can make out a hammer crossed with some other image design. I've never been able to googelate any other metal work with this mark in order to identify the shop in Korea that may have produced this more modern piece made in a traditional form with modern machinery. It is IMO a well made piece and I bought it as a nice piece of decor. Hopefully I'll be able to get a positive ID from one of you.

I don't know Tam... but I like it... a lot.

PS... I think you MAY have something there.

PSS... IF I had to guess... first impression would be a "censor"... but hole in top seems small... perhaps had a lid at one time.../ designed with one.

The hole does seem too small... will look around later.

It looks to me more like a letter ‘S’ superimposed on a letter ‘H’ in very modern stylised form. It’s obviously an export piece and the presence of the words “made in…” rather than just the country name might be an indication that it’s post 1914, when the law changed in the USA requiring those words to be added to country of origin for imports.

Aa a generality imports of this kind of stuff from Korea didn’t really take off until the 1970s. Whichever, I would think it’s an urn vase and relatively modern… but I don’t recognise the maker’s mark/trademark.

I may never find out who made this, but it be nice to know as I'm sure they made other art metal objects I'd like to maybe view. This piece isn't cheaply made and spun with somewhat heavy gauge sheet brass. Its just a nice piece of decor imo. I might just give it to my new lawyer neighbor who's mother is Korean. He collects fine Korean archery bows.
