Your "bronze clip" appears to be a broken-off part of a horsebridle "gag swivel chain," from the very-late 1800s into the early 1900s... and still being made and used today. The diagram (below) showing an intact one is from the 1907 Pierson & Hough horsegear catalog. You've got the (broken) hook end of the gag-chain. The other photo shows a slightly different form, in this case modern-made, for sale on the internet at leatherworks.com.

The dial reminds me of a safe part,the Gilt on this clip caught my eye. Recognize either?

There are similar sword hangers that look like that Chris, not sure if they are though, not being a expert on these :dontknow:

Isnt that a bath tub stopper? Looks like chrome plated brass.
