Hello everyone, my name is Gary, I was given an old bronze bust several years ago by a now dearly departed friend, is quite nice although not fine work and displays a makers mark, I have made many failed attempt online and contacting people to find out any info on it, maker? age? country? value? subject? Can anyone help me please as this would be much appreciated? Back.JPGFront.JPG

I hope you can see the pictures as I m new at this

I would really love anyone to reply to this post as this has bugged me for years and I just keep drawing blanks, although the guy that gave it
to me dabbled in antiques and thought it might be American???

Nobody on the planet seems to know, it's so frustrating, think I will offer a reward, perhaps 5% of sale price.

Posted on your other post as well:
Well, I looked up the name "Jove" and came up with this guy: Gonz Jove - Principal He is a sculptor. I know nothing about him past that. Perhaps your bronze bust isn't all that old? Maybe go to his contact info and shoot him an e-mail w/ your pics. If he's the sculptor of your piece, he would maybe be able to tell you the history of it - at least the original owner...

I have sent an email via his website, have to say his art does not look in this style but fingers crossed, this is like detective work.

I have been offered £400 by an online antique dealer [shark], but its the attributions I am interested in.

Don't give in. It's a nice sum but you could score more if you know who it is that is depicted.
I think the signature should be read "V DJE" or "J VDE" or somehow in this direction. I checked out several combinations but came up empty...

There is artist by the name of Josefina de Vasconcellos but that does not look like something she would do (unless he was a famous catholic perhaps)
