greetings, this is my first visit to the site and I am looking for some insight into this item that recently came in a large lot of items from Madrid, Spain

~ it is 2 3/8 inches by 2 inches ~ cast bronze ~ the reverse attachement is copper ~

some of the other items in the group consisted of Spanish Military buttons & cufflinks from the 17th and 18th century up to about 1820 ~ there were several buckles that I would date earlier ~

any insight into the style, use, or period would be greatly appreciated

It could be a hat badge of some kind. Hard to tell from the pics. It doesn't look even remotely military to me, but I'm no expert.

Post some better pics and maybe you'll get more interest in this item.

That kind of bow usually goes with a hunting horn... used by light infantry and rifles (like the Sharpe series).

thanks Lucas ~ now I am on to something, I will research that avenue, it would fit with the period of the other items in the lot ~

edit: here's something I found along those lines, listed as British Napoleonic Hat Badge, interesting....
