Went on a organised dig on Sunday the weather has been foul lately and I new the fields would be tough going still ploughed and rolled this time of year whose complaining, hardly any body turned up this left us with a huge area to detect almost a field each (see first picture) the first nice find came as a large Medieval key probably from a door, apart from the normal bits that was about it for the morning session. On the afternoon I moved down the field closer to the flood planes and was stopped dead in my tracks by a very loud signal I bent down and picked up a broken piece of Bronze Age Axe dating from 2,000 BC this is the first piece from this period for me and as you can imagine I was well pleased. Later that day I recovered a type of pendent but I am not quite sure from what period it comes from could possibly be Roman as I have seen simular with mother of pearl in the centre which this one still has traces off. I have added to the pictures a coin I posted a couple of weeks ago William1V penny now cleaned up a bit better, enjoy the pictures ;) TK

I like the key fragment (either roman or medieval). The pendant looks modern (Victorian to me), and the axe fragment is a wonderful find. Congrats!!!!

That was my thought on the pendent as well just wasn't sure ::)

I think the key is late Medieval, might be wrong. :-\

Last year you may remember our first Bronze Age item, the Whole Axe. First ever, but then I had a fragment like yours & Dad had another fragment. All 3 from different farms. Strange it all came in one year.

I wonder if you have opened the flood gates?

As you know Bronze Age is a super fantastic day in any UK detectorist career ;D ;D ;D

Doesn't get much older!!!

Have you read the article on the Bronze Age axe hoard in the last issue of The Searcher? One complete axe head would really be sufficient ;D

WOW ~ what awesome finds! That's exciting to see such old items! Here in my area to find an item that's pre-1900 is rare!
