Found this in a field that I've gotten arrowheads and trade beads in looks to me it might be a broken paint pot. Thoughts?

Wow! I learned something new today.The artifact guide put out by the Massachusetts Archaeological Society uses the term “paint cups”, for small bowls, mostly soapstone, and so-called because it’s presumed they were used to mix bear grease and red ochre or graphite to create a pigment. Don’t know if this example from Ma., and my collection, served that purpose, but it’s in the right size range. They’re not all natural concretions, the real small soapstone bowls have a similar description. Maybe having used the Ma. New England guide my whole life, I’ve always thought of these tiny man made one’s as paint cups or paint pots…
