The rain stopped and I went digging for an hour. Found this broken one. I'm not sure if the picture shows how cool looking the stone is. It has almost chocolate streaks running through it. It's a bummer that it's incomplete but still cool to find.

That is a nice looking one. Did they redo it to a scraper on the end? Looks like they put a spokeshave on one side and then flaked the base to make a tool out of it.

I don't think so. It just looks broken to me. As a kid I found a few very similar points in basically the same place.

In my opinion, there is nothing about this artifact that resembles a scraper, spokeshave or flaked based tool. The OP is correct, it's a broke.

You either have great eyes or a sifter with 1/8" wire...lol. I can't see the streaks but it's obviously some very nice material. Have you any idea what the material and/or type is?

It looks to me like a percussion break. Like who ever shot it missed and hit a rock, or even a bone in a deer would do that. I know, because one of my arrows hit a shoulder blade and busted, so I know it can happen. Note the way the flake runs that the arrow is point to. broken point.JPG

Broke,,,,,, but nice find and good for late night study. I am sitting with a piece out of a bucket on my desk I play with it often and like it more and more for the flaked tool it is. I think I might skin a deer with it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Looks like it hit something and broke right off.

I'm not sure what type of stone it is but I'm going to ask a few people as it's not something I'm used to seeing around here.
