Broken iron piece (civil war camp)

Heavy corroded iron. I have not cleaned it as well as I could. Unless I can identify it as an interesting object, it will probably end up in the trash heap....

One arm has indentation for a screw. The base still has a threaded flathead screw affixed. I can not find lettering. The top looks like a stove/grill coil with a hole open at the "bullseye". There is a small straight bar on the interior wall of the curved circular chamber.

Any help?

Good concept. The one remaining threaded screw looks to be a "wood" screw. However, now I am looking up hand pump, etc. it might have some sort of pump...

Thanks!

maybe the screw is rotted to the shape of a wood screw , I've seen them rot down to a point many times.

Yup. Good idea. Flat head screw. It sure looks like a housing. I am now researching things with a hand crank...molasses pump, etc. and also checking for old auto/truck water pumps. Strange to have found this in a known camp. Keeps my busy with googles images! Thanks!

I was looking at various types of 19th C grinders. Coffee, corn, meat...

Ticndig and DC Matt....excellent! I am still searching the web, but you have pointed me in great directions. I brought this stuff very to a neighbor whom does not believe it was a wood screw. He says it was a screw that could've gone into metal.

So all scenarios are in play...
