Hi everyone. You don't seem to mind me asking about rather mundane items I've found (like the Yale lock I posted about), so here's another one.
I found this broken buckle piece a week or so ago (not technically "Today's" find....) and it's been sitting on my desk. I can't seem to convince myself to put it in a box with other finds until I try to learn more about it.
So - how can I research this type of buckle, given the rather limited piece of it I found? The patina on it has me thinking it's old. It's size is larger than any other buckle I've found, but I don't know if that counts for anything. The shape seems somewhat distinctive - but I really don't know.
I love learning from all of you, so I'm hopeful one of you with knowledge of these sorts of relics can share some thoughts.
If the ultimate response is "dude they've used buckles for hundreds of years, there's no way to establish age" then I'm OK with that. But at least I asked.
Thanks in advance.
