Hello,
A friend at work gave me the blade in the picture below. It's pretty large and made from some nice looking Hixton silicified sandstone unfortunately it looks like it was broken by a plow. My question is what's the best glue to put it back together? It'll still have a chunk missing but at least I have the majority of it.

Thanks for looking,
Sidevalve45

I have zero experience in this... however... sandstone is very porous so I imagine the glue would need to be thick. Crazy glue makes a gel. Or maybe even fiberglass resin with similar colored sand added to it. Depending on the silica content... if it is more dense like ceramic crazy glue should work great.

If its not going to be vertical you could display it without glue. I've had good luck with super glue after my sister dropped a beautiful Stanley I had found that day. My only rhyolite Stanley. I don't know how well it would work on hixton that big. Mine was a small piece.

believe it or not elmers works great on flint forgot to add the center white one had a clean break and has been glued for around 18 yrs now

Hello GaterBoy,
The material is really not all that porous but it does have a rough texture in the break. I was thinking about Elmers wood glue because it's thick and would be a similar color when dry. I like the gel crazy glue idea though.

Thanks,

Elmers works good on pottery too.

That's a nice blade.. I hope it turns out good.

I use elmers it dries clear and if you make a mistake you can just soak it in warm water and it will then go back to its previous state.

I use elmers glue-all - when it dries its clear and the excess glue can be scraped away with your fingernail.

Here is one I CAREFULLY used super glue on.

Why the pic turned out up side down, I do not know. I have another that I used super glue on, but can't find it now to take a pic of. I did a slap happy job on it, and glue oozed down the point, when I placed the two pieces together. Point being, any of these glues will work. The out come depends on how careful you are, while doing the job.
