Thanks for looking everybody!
I went out detecting for a little bit last night. I haven't been able to get out much the past couple of weeks. Just before dusk I headed over to a park I have hunted many times before. I went to an area I have gone over with my Ace 250 at least twice, but this time I had my trusty E-Trac. I wasn't finding much - had dug at least one empty hole - and found one or two clad coins. Suddenly I got a really strong dime signal. It was only three inches deep, so I wasn't expecting anything unusual. I dug my plug, and as soon as I flipped it up, I saw a shiny rim in the bottom of the plug. I immediately knew it was silver. I quickly put the coin in my pocket, without cleaning it off, and took it home. When I got home, this is what I saw:
While I was cleaning it off, I was thinking that as shallow as it was, it must be a Rosie. But low and behold, it turned out to be a 1920S Merc. And in very nice condition! This is probably the nicest Merc I have found.
It couldn't have been very old when it was lost by someone about 89 years ago. I always wonder who lost it, and what the circumstances were. We'll never know the details, but it is always fun to speculate.
I hadn't found silver in more than a month, so this was a welcome find. I can't wait to get out again, but the weather forecast is for rain the next five days. So I'll see what happens. Until then, I'll enjoy the memories of digging this coin.
HH everybody!
