Hello. I have been on a dry spell for the past couple months. I have started hunting a new site. It consists of cornfields about 40 acres square. There is a river that makes a 90 bend here, so 2 sides of the acreage are riverfront. I have never seen so many flakes, chips, brokes, cast offs, cobble, etc.. It mostly seems to be in a line parallel to the river about 30 yards from the water. I am puzzled as to why there are not more complete pieces? I hunted for 5 hours Sunday and finally found some. I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

I am puzzled as to what this is. It has bifacial flaking.

Above right is the last in-situ. It is worked all the way around, both sides.

Random chips and brokes. This isn't even 1% of the amount of debris visible.

Thanks. This is only my 2nd spot finding stuff. I am not quite sure what went on here. The lack of full points has me wondering if this field has been picked quite a bit over the years. Or I just need to keep looking. This is my first cornfield, my other spot is a riverbank.

Well no I would go back on the next rain. You probably found a trash pit and when the farmer plowed it they all popped out. Try going to higher ground that is where the camp should be. The trash pit I hunt is only 100 ft or so away from the actual camp which is located on a higher level.

Thanks for the insight. I was not aware of these trash piles, that makes a lot of sense. There is slightly higher ground I will check in the field. There is a terrace located about a quarter mile away with a house on it. I hope it wasn't there. More rain today then I will try again. Thanks!

I was told by a bunch of old timers that hunt in our area, that they never picked up the broken points, I think that is another reason we find so many brokes!

Your time will come...keep looking...its all part of being successful. When you look down and see that whole point staring back at you...you will have your reward! Good luck!

Well most homes are located in the same locations as the camp sites are due to all humans think alike as to where they choose to live and farm. Hopefully there are more than 1 camp site. Good Luck
