Hi all,

My friends 8 year old boy got his first metal detector for Christmas. He loves it and goes all around with it wherever he can. He found this piece in his grandmothers field. It looks like a watch or key fob. It says Bro Be Co. Bread on the front in big letters. Also are some letters that say "eatables, milk, bread Brown Beckwith Co. The back says Brown Beckwith Newark NJ. The piece is about the size of a half dollar and seems to be made of a brassy material. I have done a ton of searches and found nothing. Any ideas what it is? Thanks for looking.

Ed, sure looks like one real neat watch fob to me. That is a beautiful display piece, I am sure someone will come up with the history of the company......

Nice find!

Here's a little more, but not much. This is a "bread premium" card. I presume it was inside the bread package. Probably from around 1920.

BTW - I didn't include the front side of the Bro Be Bread card - a picture of Jane Novak. She was a silent movie star in the teen's and 20's.
