Hey there,

First time posting here. I took my detector out yesterday in a field near a town known for War of 1812 activities. I found almost nothing of interest for about three hours, then all of a sudden I dug this button about six inches down.

Did quite a bit of research - seems theres quite a few around of this style - but alot are three piece buttons, or different variations. This seems to be a cast button with the shank still intact and it's quite heavy. It's about 2cm in diameter (little over 3/4 inch).

The button is sitting on my lens cap in the photos.

A great start to the season :)

That is a beautiful find. And welcome!

nice old artillery button, I dug one like that too, seems I was told it was more like 1830's, a good age and nice condition on yours

That's what I would guess. George IV or William. I've always thought of them as Rebellion period.

Agreed, the Crown looks to be in the style of the 1820s-1830s.

Great condition, & an early Artillery type I haven't had yet:thumbsup:
