I am excited about the button that I found yesterday. The button is not in the best of shape but it is what it is.

There is a G R and a crown on the front. Along the edge I can read the word regiment with I believe to be an SS in front of. There is more writing around the edge but I can't make it out.

I have seen a few postings of British buttons on this forum. I am hoping someone can give me more information about this button. I have found several war of 1812 US buttons at the site.

Until I buy a new camera this is the best I can do as far as a good photo.

Thank you for viewing my post and for your comments.

Update:

The SS in front of the word is actually a 55. I believe I have a 55th Regiment of foot British button. This regiment existed from1755 to 1781 and saw service in the french Indian war between 1757 and 1761. At least that is what I believe I have.

That is an AWESOME FIND! What state are you in?

Nice button. I can't find that one in my research. I'll look further , if I find anything I'll be back.

Is your button a one peace, is it concave on the back, it could be 1812, I have been looking for a book on 1812-1850s British buttons, but no luck. There were so many different buttons from that time period, here is the info from Troiani's button book on the 55th, I hope this helps. Nt
