o.k. any gents from across the pond that could shed some light on an age or what it would this little brass-alloy thing went to would be very helpful. all i can say that it was found at an older cellar-foundation here in Connecticut ( it dates from early 1700's to mid 1800's) i know its a coat of arms ( royal ?? ) and from the back you can see a brazed or solder mark maybe to fasten it onto something else ( pin , clasp, ???) again any help or ideas are very welcomed . thanks

Dan

kinda, but not an official or military one, way too weak. Its a bit like those blazer buttons, similar but not good enough to represent our coat of arms. The Crown is way off, but it is representive of Great Britain.

DIEU ET MON DUIT French for literally "God and my right" (a fuller version of the motto is also quoted as "God and my right shall me defend").

HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE From the Order of the Garter Old French: "shame upon him who thinks evil upon it", or "evil to him who evil thinks".

:hello:

Dieut et mon droit is the Motto of the British Monarch, it appears on a schroll beneath the sheild of the coat of arms of the United Kingdom.
Devine right of the Monarch to Govern, and was adopted by King HenryV in the 15th century, yours could be a badge or of a saddle or something.

Nice find :icon_thumleft:

Going purely on a search to match the poor rendition of a crown on the badge...the best i can come up with is that it's a badge used by a British commonwealth country.Guessing that yours will be Canadian as i can't find an exact match, but looks the most similar along with the Australian badges.Scroll down this page and have a look.
