british gold coins?

I have heard of British gold coins being hidden in the area of where Alabama, Georgia and Florida meet. Something to the effect Indians hide gold coins that they were paid by British forces to help out during one of the wars. Supposedly the hide the coins before General Andrew Jackson came thru to keep them from being stolen by the Americans. I don't live far from that area and i would like to do some research but don't really know where to start. Anyone else ever hear of this?

well i'm starting to piece this together. found out it was on carters mill creek where the coins were supposedly buried.
