Two versions were minted. The silver issue had a mintage of 377,000 and the copper-nickel had a mintage of almost 37 million. It was issued to commemorate the SILVER JUBILEE OF REIGN, or, 25th anniversary of Elizabeth II as queen. It is actually a circulating coin worth 25 new pence. In Uncirculated condition, it would be worth about $2 HH SmokeEater

It is a British "crown" (technically a decimal 25-new pence piece, as SmokeEater pointed out.) It is copper-nickel, not silver.  However, it was struck to mark the queen's silver jubilee, in other words, the 25th year of her reign.  This is what Jeff meant when he said it was a "silver jubilee coin".)

BTW, though it ain't worth a whole lot monetarily, I would consider it a pretty cool find!  I imagine it cranked your pulse rate up a little bit, at first!

It's got the "coolness" factor, even if it ain't got the valuableness factor.  ;)
