Hello all! I found this today at one of my favorite sites today. I got this item that at first glance appears to be a button but there are 2 clips on the back so I'm thinking it served another purpose. Any idea what it is, how old it is & if it was for military use? I also found thus really cool Celtic knot brooch. Any idea on the age if this (was silver plated at one time). As always any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking & HH!

It is our coat of arms but I have not seen a press brass military item like it. Pretty sure its in the same boat as the blazer buttons. ie. a cheap copy for civilian use, not sure what it clip onto? Look forward to the proper ID.

The knot badge looks 1930s.

Thanks Cru. I was thinking that about the blazer button but those 2 clips are throwing me off. Thanks for your input on the knot badge as well.

A very knowledgable gentleman at my club meeting believes I've got something good here. He thinks it is a rosette of some sort, would've been applied to leather or possibly a hat. He guessed it would be early to mid 1800s. I'm surprised no one here has chimed in...

Ask for his reference for this? I would like to learn more.

I sent him detailed photos so hopefully he will get back to me with a positive ID. I didn't think it was that old but this guy has been doing this for decades.
