I picked this up with a lot of silver from the pawn shop a while ago. Looking more closely, it seems like it’s the heraldic crest for the first Earl Beatty who was admiral of the fleet. I cannot decipher the monogram, but the crest seems a dead match.

Given the earlship and crest were created only in 1919, and this piece seems at least that old, I’m kind of hoping it was his!

I’d love to get thoughts from you all. Real? Beatty?

The crest has Beatty’s motto, the nine bees around the hive, and the Demi lion holding the crescent orb.

It’s on a morning style fob ribbon. Everything is solid silver. Thanks.

That's a great find, and I see no reason at all to believe it's not authentic.

if you turn it to the correct orientation and mirror-image it, then it appears to me to be "RB", although I wouldn't rule out there being a third letter buried in there as 'S'.

All of the Earls so far have been 'David', although the 1st Earl had 'Richard' as a middle name. I can't get a 'D' anywhere from the seal, although they're notoriously difficult to read, so I think you need to research for family members (deceased ones, given the mourning ribbon).

The 1st Earl married a lady called Ethel Tree in 1901 and she already had a son called Ronald from her previous marriage, but I would assume he kept his original surname. They had two children of their own: David Field Beatty (2nd Earl) and Peter Randolph Louis Beatty, so it wouldn't be either of those.

Red that’s excellent information and suggestions. I’m going to start digging through Beatty family right now. Thanks!
