Shipwrecks
OK I saw the reports of the man from California that supposedly found the ship using Google earth. It peaked my interest do to it being in my neck of the woods, So I started researching this little tail from my research I have determined that it is based on true events. I have located the ranch that the house was originally built on still need to workout what exactly he considered his property at the time (1829-1835ish) considering that the area really didn't have an accurate survey done until several yrs later and the area was much more populated at the time. I believe the old ship timbers might have been reused to build an old church that is in the same area of the old house or they turned the old house into the church. I also believe that if there was any treasure it was divided up between several of the colonists in the area (Mostly Mexican and Irish immigrants) Another issue I have is that the ship supposedly ran aground in 1818 and sunk into the ground to some degree but the area isn't that soft and the colonist got to the area in 1829 and there were already some Mexicans living in the area i don't think it could have sank deep enough to cover the cargo in 11 yrs possible but I don't think so something else that makes me believe that the treasure was divided to is that the immigrants really didn't have much money considering that if you were Catholic at the time in Ireland you could not own land and most of the colony was Catholic so they could only sell there livestock and possessions for the money to travel to Texas from Ireland which wouldn't be cheep but one of the ranches in question is now a very wealthy ranch that supposedly made there money from a bank in Victoria TX. my question is where did the money come from to start the bank? And if the story holds true that the ship sank into the ground then it should be an older ship. But I haven't been able to find hard evidence of a missing Spanish two masted Brigantine missing in 1818,But i'm still looking anybody have any hard evidence of a missing brigantine from Vera Cruz in 1818 or there about probably late 1700's. Oh and I think everyone has been looking on the wrong creek.:laughing7:
