I found this item on private property with a house dating back to 1723. It came out of the ground basically as you see it, nice brown patina, no corrosion.

At first I thought it was some sort of mini-vase that might hold one small flower, but as I cleaned it, I found that the opening in the top goes in maybe 1/2 of an inch. It is basically solid brass/copper. The bottom is around the size of a penny, and the middle about as round as a quarter.

What is it? Could it be the ringer for a bell? The opening doesn't look threaded, so I'm not sure what could be put in there to stay put.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

It looks tiny in the picture when compared to the comb. Im going to guess doll house furniture.

If you give us the full patent dates exactly as they are written, I can pull them up. A close up picture is better. I dont think they had patents in 1805. If it say 05, must be 1905.

Cool finds. I found one of those RCA Victor Talking Machine plates along with a container of needles. I could date that as well if I could read the patent numbers.

I'm wondering if it part of a vintage carnival 'ring toss' game, especially since it is bulbous at the bottom. As you remember, the ring had to 'totally' enclose the item/post, which would explain the 3 embossed circles. Those embossed circles could help prevent the ring from encircling to the table/floor. Below is a pic of a modern version. Interesting find  Breezie

PS: I've received several PM's asking where I've been for the past few weeks. I'm still here, but my time has really been limited because between now and after Christmas is our busiest time in the shop, PLUS we're remodeling our home; actually having a room built-on. So between work & home, if I have enough sense to comment on TNet, I'll do so! LOL ;D

Hello Breezie. You may have missed it-- the item is about the size of a quarter. The first 5 pics can be deceiving with nothing for size comparison. I made the same mistake until I seen the last pic.
