I found this ring recently when searching for a large confederate camp where three generals and 10K men were stationed. The symbols may be masonic but I don't know.
The ring seems to be made of brass. It was black when found but it has been cut and resized so it could be of some other metal.

It would be awesome to know if it was that old...

I dug a brass wedding ring from the 1860s - 1890s out here... Indian War era from a buffalo soldier training area where nothing else ever happened... I've also seen many claimed from CW camps/sites... none with the design stamped/etched in it though... NICE!

Hmm hand stamped, engraved: looks to be oriental or Arabic. Does it smell like brass if you rub it?? I think I would test such as it still could be a low grade gold..

To add to Gypsy's post :)

I have no idea on its age or markings, could be a more modern cheap ring or something older.

If it came out of the ground black. It is most likely silver. Some of the marking look European - circle and 2 dots. Other markings look Arabic. Nothing seems to scream out mid 19th century. The most telling thing on the ring may be the soldered joint. Different materials were used at different times. This might help date when it was resized. My guess is that it was a family ring that was resized so it could be worn by another family member.

Nice find and something that should keep you busy trying to figure it out. One thing you don't have to worry about is returning it to its owner. ;D

Thanks Guys and Gals for the resizing of the pics. I'll try and do better next time.
The reason that I thought it might be Masonic is that I found some markings that
looked similar on the net that were early masonic in origin. My dad and grandfather
were masons but I never saw them have anything marked similar
There were also some African symbols that looked like these but I find it hard to
believe that a slave would have been allowed to have jewelry and this area had slaves.
I'll keep looking.

The markings are some sort of elvish. In the common tounge it reads. One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Myyyyyyy precious.

;D

I suppose it was just a matter of time.... ::)

That ring is REALLY cool. Good luck identifying it.
