Brass tag of some type, found near a railroad, in town. Back says “Jas Murdoch JR 165 Race St Cin C.”. Well known engraver, address suggests pre 1890. Any help appreciated.

It looks like the tag off of a work or school locker. :icon_scratch:
Amazing detail in the font.

From an archaeologist friend:

Cool find! Probably a shipping tag (baggage or cargo). Found a reference online to a "Jas. Murdock Jr., Mfr. of lead seals" that was at 165 Race St. in Cincinnati from 1875 to 1887. Reference says Murdock produced lead seals, wax seals, baggage checks, and ticket stamps. Definitely RR related.
