This appears to be a brass tag which was found near an old bridge site on a small creek in NJ that was active from the 1750's until the early to mid 1900's. It weighs .324 oz or 9.20 grams and measures 38.4 mm in width.
One side is blank, but the words "DARM LATT" were seemingly hand etched onto the other side of the tag. My initial research into the words has me guessing that this may have labeled something from a butcher... possibly some kind of gut sausage.
Maybe this fell off of a truck or wagon a hundred years ago or more?? I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts.
Thanks!
