dating back to the 1800's...no idea what it is, any help would be appreciated

Cool find, congrats. Without seeing the back, my layman's take on it is that it is an 1800's suspender buckle win the hunting/jumping horse scene. You may want to clean it and post pix of front and back for a more definitive ID by relic experts. Sub
