Shoot. I left it with the property owner. Its about 8 inches long...nothing notable on the back

Yes I agree but at 8 inches I was thinking of a brake pedal lock or something to lock a boat door? Trailer hitch lock? Since it was found close to the shore

Obviously made of brass, it definitely has some age to it as well.
Probably dates to the early 1900s... maybe for securing a window closed on a boat? :icon_scratch:

To clarify it was found in the yard of a home (on Lake Michigan) built in the 1860s

So, the rod is one piece and about 8' long? The center mechanism is some sort of ratchet that engages the notches on the rod?
