Not what I was expecting for a can slaw signal last night. Apparently engraved brass social security cards were a thing in the 1930s and 40s because the paper ones would ware out. These were NOT government issued. It's completely filled out too. Original owner died in 2003. If you were their son or daughter would you want it back?? With rings It's an obvious return if owner can be found.

I'd return it if reasonably possible; let his kin, not you, decide to keep it or not.

Im trying to locate their son or daughter

My hunting buddy just found one too last Sunday. Cool find! :icon_thumleft:

I think the family would like to have it for a keep sake.
Then again it also depends on the family and their values.
Seen some if the $$$ isn't instantaneous then it's not of interest to them. (sad but reality )

Well found still as it's a piece of personal history.

I've tracked down the original owners obituary. She was born in 1920 and married a lieutenant colonel in the US army. It mentions U.S. Army 10th armored division. Obituary says she has a daughter and son. Since I don't Facebook, my cousin is helping me try and find her relatives.

I would try to return it if possible. I found a Brass card 9 years ago on an old homestead in Oklahoma. I was able to locate the Great Great Niece of the card owner (who had long since passed away) and she was thrilled to have it, as she was in the middle of doing a family tree and ancestor deal. You can click on my "Honorable mention" tab and scroll down to see it.
