Hello all! I found this a couple weeks ago at the site of a Revolutionary War camp (1780). I have not been able to find an exact match for this anywhere. I'm thinking it may be Naval related as it is made out of brass. The closest I found was a Charleville musket but there is a "break" in the middle unlike the one I found. (Photo of 1777 Charleville for reference) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to get a positive ID on this one

The problem you're going to have here is that there are literally hundreds of different guns it could have come from. It's not a distinctive part such as a lock or side plate or a trigger guard, so narrowing it down could be pretty much impossible. Was the camp British? Colonial Army? Other? Assuming it dates to the period, which it looks like it easily could, knowing who camped there would let us compare it to the weapons they carried to make an educated guess at best.

It was a Continental Army camp.
