dead on id -- 50 cal war world two round -- for a 50 cal machine gun -- made in 1942 thus the "42" twin cities plant - thus "TW" ---

may be a training camp "item" brought (spent shell casing) brought home from training camp by a farm boy -- gee paw lookie at the big bullets they use --- or from the war (same thing basically) -- the old farm might have been a air force or army gunnery range / bombing range at one time during WW2 -- possibly if not the first case most likely

Ill have a talk with the local old timers and see but im sure it was brought home from training camp.I think his son was in the military but not sure what year.Thanks for the help. :)

bingo -- think you have a winner -- a 1942 or WW2 trainee "fresh off the farm" would have been "impressed" by the size of a 50 cal bullet and took a shell casing home to show the folks how "big" it was -- they used 50 cal machine guns for live fire training in the boot camps to teach the recuits to keep their heads down and get them used to the sound of high powered gun fire-- the shells are large in size rather impressive to someone who's never seen one
