Yes they are tent rope adjusters but I disagree with the site that says they are Civil War era. They are not. They are from the 1880 on. I have one with a patent date from the 1880.

You may be correct. Patent dates only stayed on the invention for about 10-15 years. I dont remember exactly. A picture would be nice.

I agree with "duggap", I've found several of these in the Chicago area woods in and around Scout camping areas.

Often sold as Civil War tent guys... I dug one at an Indian War location but the patent time fits correctly.

Find pictures... I bet (IMO) they were made long before that patent and in the same way - and - were made for a long long long time afterwards too.

We have debated the age issue on the rope adapters for years here in the Chattanooga area and with the various clubs we have around here. Most of the folks feel as I do, that is that they post date the war. The ones we find around here always have Ft. Oglethorpe relics along with it. Ft. Oglethorpe opened around the 1890s if my memory is correct. When we hunt CW sites in Dalton or Resaca we never find the rope adapters. I have them in two sizes with the smaller one having a patent date. I can't lay my hands on any with the patent date but for the most part I never collected them. I usually just gave them away.
