Howdy folks. I recovered this brass railroad baggage tag and have no idea to it's age or origin. Unfortunately it has no makers mark. Only the individuals name, number, and place of residence. There is nothing stamped on the reverse. I am currently beginning to try and run down the family history and find out the original owner, H. Gross. I really love the tag as I believe it is my first one. I am thinking it may be a late 1800's item from what I have researched so far making it pretty darn cool to me. Any help in finding information on this tag is greatly appreciated. Kurios1

Name and address makes it easy to search the person in the census records for a Time period they lived in that location?

There's a Henry Gross listed here. Might check the Ashton Gazette.

It doesn't looks like the typical form for a cow tag but it does appear Henry Gross of Franklin Grove was involved with pedigreed Herefords circa 1897 so that gave me the thought that possibly this was used that way.

Wow! I am the not as advanced in research as some folks it seems. Very nice information. I hope to contact some of the family members in the near future. Hopefully something will be revealed about the purpose of this brass tag. Thanks for your efforts and assistance mate.:icon_salut:
