Hi everyone.

I found this 1994 Quarter metal detecting and it does not want to shine up and it sure looks to be
Like brass.

Any thoughts please?

Just environmental damage. At least where I hunt, most clad coins that have been in the ground for a longer period of time come out looking like that.

Yes this is a normal condition for dug clad coins, anything after 1964. Only pre 1965 silver coins will come out shiny. You can wash them and run them in a tumbler with rocks in it for a few hours and they will come out better but still have a dark overtone to them.

See you are relatively new to the forum, also see you're from Mo. I'm from Missouri also. Welcome.

Don

If you think that quarter is shady, wait till you dig up a few of these newer pennies, they look like they survived some kind of nuclear disaster! And yes welcome to the forum. I should post some penny pics.... give me a day or 2.

OK, here you go.... and these are just a few samples I randomly pulled from the MD heap. Some are considerably worse. Thanks for looking and happy hunting.
