New to the site, Glad I found you. Found eleven of these things in a metal box under the floor in an old 1800's barn. appear to be brass plated cast iron and also spring loaded. 3 1/8"L x 2 1/4"W. it has 3 mounting holes and 2 hand set rivets through the base. When closed, the inside diam. of the clamp opening is 3/4". When opened it is 1 1/4". No Mfg. marks. I think it's age is between 1890's and 1920's. It looks as though it had a specific purpose. I'd love to know if anyone has seen this thing before? what its called and what it's used for? Thanks!View attachment Clamp 1.jpgView attachment Clamp 2.jpgView attachment Clamp 3.jpgView attachment Clamp 4.jpg

Looks like a latch of an old icebox or something, maybe? im thinking more like a broom clamp or fire extinguisher mount though

Agree.....holder for a broom, shovel, rake, etc......

I would say it is cast brass. Being brass I would say it's boat or ship related. For oars push poles, etc ?

Another thought ... those things that latch the door open ... ?

Yes! you mean like a door stop latch at the bottom of an interior door in a home? I think so! Sounds good to me. Thank You!
