I was thinking maybe an old lid to a metal box but really not sure. It's very thin. Found at an 1800s house site 20200414_181025.jpg20200414_181412.jpg

I was thinking decor for a piece of furniture but I can see rouge tin top Leaning more towards furniture though

My eye's maybe playing tricks on me, but the area circled in red looks like the remains of solder. :icon_scratch:
Initially, I was thinking it was the lid to a snuff/tobacco tin, the area circled in green looks to be where a hinge might have been.

Nice find,
Dave

I do see the anomaly you speak of in the green circle and the look of solder at the center. A snuff box would seal tight so the stuff could not spill out the sides when closed and in a pocket? This appears to be aprox two washington .25 quarters high and three quarters wide. Fairly large enough to be a small belt buckle? That would explain the hinge and the remains of solder for a hook at the center?
