And I've seen those for Coo-Coo clocks and some Grandfather clocks as well and most were patterned in a pine cone shaped ( Coo-Coo ) and Grandfather clock ones were less patterned or smoother . I think it's a handle from a fireplace poker or fireplace tool cause I can see where it fit on the tool stand just below the ball top end or handle top ... seems like all the others I've seen before so my opinion is it's a fireplace poker .. IMHO , Woodstock

That doesn't look like it would be very comfortable to hold as a handle for a fireplace tool, but perhaps the finial for the tool holder, or from a set of fireplace andirons or firedog. Most had a finial on top, and some even had a decorative finial on the rear "foot"
