Brass Pedal

I find stuff all the time and have no idea what it is. I had such good luck the ID of an item earlier I thought I would try another item. This is some kind of pedal I believe. It is made of thick brass and was found at a Civil War Fort?.

the 'raw' side would have to be facing upwards to use as a pedal. the better side showing would lead me to believe it's purpose was to serve as a leg for something. Given the size in relation to the coin, I tend to think it could be one leg of a fireplace Andiron
