Brass painted Jesus plate

might have been attached to a large wooden cross as a centerpiece ..for a church..... but how would it be attached ? I see no nail or screw holes.... any sign of glue or epoxy on it ? with the 4 tab like "wings" maybe it was fitted into a frame --that had a oval hole in it ( the jesus has a ovalish rim and the tabs are outside of it ) and the back was secured some how to hold it in place..

Prob some slide latch that held from back on the 4 tabs

Probably off of a grave marker.

if placed into a wooden frame / or cross with a oval hole for the Jesus image to show thru the "holding tabs" could have easily had nails hammered into the frame behind the tabs to hold it into place ..I could easily see something like that in a old catholic church in a big strong wooden frame

how did you find / obtain it?.... looks cool I must say ..I have a `1700's era mission cross and Spanish / Indian trade beads that I made into a rosary
