Since I know squat about jewelry, I need some help! I found this item yesterday about 3 inches down. Probably not too old, but I'd like to know how old it is and what it is!

It's brass and measures 1 1/2" square. Looks like an orange opal in the middle. No stampings or marks anywhere on the piece. The brass is a little corroded, but it cleaned up fairly well.

Any help IDing this item would be appreciated!

TIM I DONT KNOW MYSELF IF IT IS OLD OR VERY OLD , BUT THAT BROOCH SURE IS FINE.

My thoughts on this piece...

With identical openings on each end, your piece appears to be a section or link from a ladies panel belt or perhaps a bracelet even. It looks to be brass plated white metal with a faux stone (glass maybe) and probably dates no earlier than the 1960's, more likely it's from the late 70's - early 80's. It would be a single link in a belt with a similar construction as this one-

That belt looks like a match to me. That would explain a lack of any markings on the piece. Thanks for your help!
