Brass Lion's Claw Attachment

Found at a site that only contained pre-1850s buttons (flat buttons, tombac, etc.). It has a hook or fastener on one side, as well as a loop similar to a button shank braised on the back. The design is decorative near the hook, and it looks like a lion's paw at the bottom, complete with claws.

Thank you in advance.

It seems a little flimsy for that purpose... The piece is stamped brass, not cast.

Money clip?

Maybe the eye on the back was attached to a small chain. :dontknow:

That eyelet on the back, along with the hook cinches the deal for me. Great ID! :occasion14:
