So I dug this brass item with 2 hooks on the back yesterday at my early 1700s site.
I think it was attached to some sort of leather gear. There is a square nubby item on the end.
This nubby item reminds me of something that would secure a flap on a pouch of some sort.
The nubby is dome shaped so something could slide over it with ease, and the back is flat, so what ever was slid over it would stay somewhat secure.
Any ideas.???

Here is the link link with all of the other finds. Would love to get a date on the pottery shard and other finds as well. Thanks.

It is a strap fitting or hook. Hard to say exactly what it was used for. Belt hook? Cartridge box? Haversack? Baldric? Saddle? :dontknow:

I agree. Just wish I knew what it was used for. My guess is its really old and possibly military, for a haversack, but who knows.
