Brass oar holder. I have some on an old lake boat in the field

Yours look pretty old. Mine had the bar that went completely through to hold in oars but yours appears to be able to be tied

I would have to respectfully say that it is far too inacurate in its design to be drivetrain related. Also it is brass....kinda soft.I have alot of nautical expierience and have helped restore antique craft.Even if used for other purposes....this is nautical and very early, dare I say....pre engine.Far preceding engine. It was to be lashed and did not require exacting design.

As breezy said...wouldnt bet the whole farm...but definately the cows.

Well that's what I was thinking

It is definitely a Model-T Ford automobile's clutch throwout bearing collar. See photo below. Please note that there's no hole in the bottom nor other provision for mounting it (such as a rod) as an oar-holder or etc.

cannonballguy,I respectfully disagree.while very similar in shape two things cross my mind....first...brass? second, looking at photos it seems so very crude and non symetrical in design.Kind of freestyle to me.As to no center post....not required for gunnel mount or transom mount(lashed into oak fitting).I do not feel this was machined.
trying to help but ready to learn...thats me.

rocky, those things turn up quite a bit on the forum. I couldn't think of the name of the thing off hand when I posted, but CannonballGuy was right there with it.
