Details don't really add up to powder flask.

Reminds me more of a eyepiece from a small telescope, but what is that inner piece that is screwed on? :dontknow:

Or either the eye piece to a set of binoculars. Breezie

It was the inner piece that made me think powder flask, but you're right any adjustable mechanism would have to be on other side of object :D

The telescope/binoculars is a good suggestion. Could it have been to secure a lens? I'll try to clean the inner piece some more.

A lot of the telescopes had a little sliding cover inside. I wonder if it could be that?

There appear to be a small steel wire attached to the small screw (It comes through the hole and in 1st pic visible at 12 o'clock). Believe this wire was on the inside and worked as a spring so the plate would be a focus adjustment of the telescope. I'm gonna green check on yet another great ID by Lucas :hello2:
